The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck, décolleté, and hands. However, Lumecca™ can be used on most areas of the body. Slight redness is noted after the procedure, and over the next 24-48 hours darkening of the pigmented spots will occur.

Within a week this pigmentation usually flakes off revealing a renewed complexion. Results will continue to improve for 1-2 weeks.

The appearance of the skin will be improved after the first session, but in some cases, multiple sessions will be required to achieve maximum results. Candidates

Someone who has moderate to severe fat beneath the chin and would like to improve it may be a good candidate for KYBELLA®. During your KYBELLA® consultation, you will need to discuss any previous medical procedures or health issues with Dr. Chadwell.

Someone may not be a good candidate if they:

• Have had cosmetic treatments on the face, neck, or chin
• Have had or currently have medical conditions in or near the neck area
• Have had or currently have trouble swallowing
• Have bleeding problems
• Have had or plan on having surgery on their face
• Are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant
• Are breastfeeding or plan on breastfeeding

Procedure

KYBELLA®’s active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps to break down and absorb dietary fat. KYBELLA® is FDA approved as safe and effective for addressing submental fat. Once injected into the area beneath the chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of the fat. The body then reabsorbs the by-products.

Dr. Chadwell will inject one vial of the KYBELLA® solution at a time beneath the chin. By limiting the amount of the solution, he can reduce potential swelling and bruising. KYBELLA® can take several treatment sessions to achieve maximal results. Each KYBELLA® treatment should be spaced at least one month apart. The number of KYBELLA® treatments needed will depend on the patient and how they respond to the treatment. The average patient will need two to four KYBELLA® treatments to see visible results.

KYBELLA® vs. Surgery

Many people with submental fat can get rid of this fat permanently with KYBELLA®; however, the treatment is not a replacement for a surgical procedure. Patients who have excess sagging skin in the neck and submental area may be better suited for a lifting procedure. Dr. Chadwell will help his patients determine whether they will best achieve their desired results with KYBELLA® or with surgery. During a lifting procedure, he can remove sagging skin, excess fat, and muscle banding. Dr. Chadwell performs different techniques to customize each patient’s surgery to their individual anatomy and goals.

Recovery and Results

Typically, KYBELLA® treatments will only take a few minutes. Many patients can be in and out of the office in less time than the average person’s lunch break. Patients will experience some swelling after the procedure and may have some mild discomfort.

Some possible side effects may include:

• Bruising

• Numbness
• Redness
• Hardness in the treatment area
• Difficulty swallowing
• Facial weakness

Side effects are generally mild and resolve quickly. Patients should contact the office if they experience trouble swallowing or facial muscle weakness.
