Acne Scarring Removal Treatments for Moderate to Severe Acne Scars
There are three types of acne scarring removal processes that are more effective treatment options than topical creams or acne scar products: fractional skin resurfacing utilizing radio-frequency energy, chemical resurfacing and dermal fillers. What is the difference between the three? Let’s take a look:
- Fractora™
- This fractional skin resurfacing technique deploys radio-frequency energy that utilizes “micro pins” to reach deep layers of the skin. Unlike chemical resurfacing, Fractora can be used on almost all skin types, including darker skin tones. Furthermore, since Fractora is a less invasive method of addressing acne scarring removal, there is little to no downtime involved. In fact, some patients see visible positive outcomes as early as the first treatment. It is, however, typical to receive three to four treatments (three to four weeks apart) before seeing full results.
- Deep Chemical Peel
- Candidates of a phenol chemical resurfacing procedure must meet several qualifying factors for a deep peel. If, for example, an individual has undergone a harsh acne treatment within the last year, dealt with a history of facial warts and/or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or has a pattern of abnormal skin scarring, they are not a good candidate for this procedure.
- Dermal Fillers
- If he feels that a particular patient would benefit from acne scarring removal through the use of dermal filler injections, Dr. Jon Chadwell may use Restylane® to help minimize acne scars.
What If You Only Have Mild Acne Scarring?
In some cases, patients may have mild acne scarring that they wish was less noticeable. In this case, the best acne scar removal products that we carry and recommend in our SkinCare Spa are SkinCeuticals, Delaine and LaRoche Posay. Dr. Chadwell may also suggest Superficial Chemical Peels (Micropeels) in the event that a client has mild acne scarring or even active acne.
To know for sure which type of acne scarring removal treatment would work best for you, we recommend scheduling a consultation. Dr. Chadwell will base his recommendation for treatment on whichever method of acne scarring removal will work best for your specific needs.
