Why so Much Appeal When It Comes to a Chemical Resurfacing Peel?
Chemical resurfacing typically refers to the process of correcting dull, tired looking skin and addressing other similar imperfections/conditions through the application of a deep chemical peel solution. Chemical peels are an effective way to revitalize skin by helping to improve:
- Fine lines in the facial area
- Deeper wrinkles and creases
- Presence of uneven pigmentation
- Mild acne scarring
Chemical resurfacing can be performed in the office. Dr. Chadwell utilizes a special phenol-based solution that is brushed directly onto the skin, where it remains for a period of time before it neutralizes. It will take a while for damaged, older layers of skin to peel – hence the term “deep chemical peel.”
How to Get the Most From Your Chemical Resurfacing Experience

- TYLENOL® to help alleviate pain
- Applying a dense cream to the treatment area liberally for one week
- Taking prescribed antibiotics and antivirals to prevent infection
- Avoiding the sun (particularly direct sunlight) for at least six weeks
- Always wearing sunscreen when going outdoors after initial healing has taken place
- Avoiding rubbing the skin, sitting in a sauna or hot tub and vigorous exercise until cleared by your physician (usually a few weeks is recommended)
- No use of contacts for at least seven to ten days
Do You Qualify?
Again, certain skin types and skin conditions may not be ideal for chemical resurfacing. If you have any of the following characteristics, Dr. Chadwell may suggest alternate services for an improved facial appearance:
- The presence of facial warts
- Problems with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Previous use of harsh acne treatments (especially within the last year)
- A history of abnormal skin scarring
Ultimately, a consultation with Dr. Chadwell will determine if you’re a viable candidate. Generally, as long as you are in overall good health, don’t smoke, have realistic expectations and have not experienced any of the criteria above, chemical resurfacing is most likely an appropriate option. In the event that a deep chemical peel is not right for you, we offer several other superficial chemical peels through Chadwell Skincare Spa, including our MicroPeel Plus that can accommodate varying skin types (unlike a deep chemical peel) and result in the reduction of fine lines, evening of skin discoloration and minimization of acne scars and sun damage.
